4Gamers – Live Preview | Banishers: Ghosts of New Eden offers a great twist

Banishers: Ghosts of New Eden is a new game from Don’t Nod, which of course we know mainly from games like Life is Strange, but with this title we get something completely different. At Gamescom we got a chance to get the game going.

In Banishers: Ghosts of New Eden, you will play as Antea and Red at the end of the 17th century.H a century. The two are not only ghost hunters but also a couple, and thus have a very close relationship. So close that even after her death, Antea cannot be overcome by Red.

You read that correctly, Antia is exactly what she and Red have been haunting for years: a ghost. Throughout the game, you can always switch between the two characters whenever you want, for example to solve puzzles, but also in combat.

Therefore the use of the interaction between Antea and Red is of particular interest. For example, Antia has a health bar, but of course she can never die. During battles, it decreases when performing actions, as a kind of stamina bar. If it drops to zero, you can switch back to red. He can also be assertive, but of course he is more vulnerable than his spiritual wife.

Both of them also have special attacks that can help you a lot during the battle. So switching at the right times is something you shouldn’t forget, something we did in the first part of our gaming session. Once we got the hang of it, we noticed how smooth the combat was.

What immediately catches the eye is the graphics. Banishers: Ghosts of New Eden looks great. People who say there isn’t much of a jump for the new generation of consoles will have to adjust their opinion here. Whether during the scenes or during the gameplay, the game is an absolute treat for the eyes.

Don’t Nod also succeeds perfectly at constantly telling stories as you play. We’ve already seen in their other games that they master this and here too the dialogues between Red and Antea are always interesting. At least during the hour we can play. Banishers: Ghosts of New Eden may be an action role-playing game, but it’s not a game that you play at high tempo and we don’t have a problem with that in this case.
