Dimitri van den Berg sacks world champion Wright to enter World Matchplay semi-finals | darts

Dimitri van den Berg reached the semi-finals of the World Championship match for the third time in a row. The Belgian won an impressive match against world champion Peter Wright 16-14.

The World Matchplay is the second most important darts tournament – after the World Championships – and Dimitri van den Berg has always been on schedule in the past. In his participation 2, he always made it to the final (won once in 2020)

In the quarter-finals, the Belgian had to challenge Peter Wright, the Scottish world champion this evening.

On the first legs, Van den Berg was promptly pushed by Peter Wright. The Scotsman was throwing hard and barely gave Van den Berg a chance to throw the double ball. Wright entered the first half with a 4-1 lead.

After the break, the world champion’s scoring ability decreased somewhat. Our compatriot fully regained the balance and scored 5-5 in the second half.

High level for both players

Peter Wright then chose to switch darts during the break, but he took advantage of it.

Van den Berg comes under pressure and wins by no less than 10 legs in a row. The Belgian continues to throw at a high level and his average never drops below 100.

On the other hand, Peter Wright seems to have lost his mind for a moment. 5-10 at break number 3.

Van den Berg looks on his way to a landslide victory, but then crashes into Wright’s World Champion class. With a nice comeback, the Scots tied: 12-12.

In the end, Van den Berg keeps calm and decides the match in his favour. Final score 16-14.
