DPG Media, along with other European media companies, is demanding €2.1 billion from Google | Economy

A group of more than thirty European media companies is demanding €2.1 billion in damages from Google. They are filing a lawsuit against the American company in the Netherlands. Belgian companies DPG Media, Mediahuis and Roularta are involved in the claim.

She added that the companies want compensation for “years of abuse of the dominant position” that Google had in the online advertising market. The companies confirm that this violation has been proven in various European countries.

For example, in 2021, the French competition regulator found that Google favored its own advertising tools over those of competitors. Google was then fined €220 million as part of the settlement.

Media companies believe they have lost income. By filing the claim together, they say they avoid the risk of inconsistencies and increased costs.
