GGD Hollands Maiden has begun preventive monkeypox vaccination. In recent weeks, GGD has already vaccinated people who have been in close contact with an infected person.
Starting Tuesday, August 9, people at high risk of infection can get the preventive vaccination.
These people receive a personal invitation from the GGD or their practitioner. A monkeypox vaccination cannot be scheduled on your own initiative. MSM and transgender people who have an increased risk of contracting monkeypox virus will receive an invitation. These are, for example, people who are using HIV-PrEP or who are on a waiting list for this, but also people with HIV who have been screened for hepatitis C.

To reach all eligible, GGD’s sexual health and infectious disease control teams work with HIV treatment centers and district general practitioners, such as Alphen, Gouda and Leiden.
Vaccination limits transmission of the virus. It’s one way to contain an outbreak of monkeypox, according to a GGD Hollands Midden report. Meanwhile, the GGD in the Utrecht region has also begun to vaccinate.
