Everything is more expensive in Werchter, and commerce is also not immune to inflation. Where a Charlotte de Witt shirt – one of the best deals on Thursday – cost €90 last year, this year you had to pay at least €100 for it. Instantly one of the most expensive bands’ jerseys on the shopping table this year. “The most expensive item this year is the purple bomber jacket from Red Hot Chili Peppers, which costs 125 euros,” says Lisa, a merchandising saleswoman. “However, it was almost sold out yesterday at noon.”

Chris Van Tonglen turns up at Rock Werchter, but not to celebrate. This weekend he’s working as one of the camp directors at The Hive. “The organization called me after I led the vaccination center in Poti during the coronavirus pandemic,” Chris explains.

In addition to acting and singing, Van Tongelen also has significant experience staging and producing musicals. However, he finds some time in his busy schedule to come and soak up the meadow with his daughter, Lily Jane, and partner, Anneliese. Who would they still like to see? Hu, the metal Hun from Mongolia. “I saw the description and thought, I have to check this out!”

Harry Styles is still on the festival grounds…

Fun fact: Harry Styles’ feathers are still strewn across the festival grounds and are proving stubborn for the clean-up crew. “The lawns are vacuumed daily with large machines that can run up to two hours before they are full,” says a festival staff member. “After Harry, the machines filled up after barely half an hour.”
