Lenovo is waging a war against Asus and wants to ban the sale of Zenbook laptops in the United States. To that end, it is suing Asus based on patent infringements.
Lenovo believes that Asus is ignoring several patents related to hardware, software and connectivity. Therefore, the Chinese computer manufacturer is turning to… International Trade Commission (ITC) in the United States. The result is a lawsuit in which Lenovo wants to ensure that Asus devices are no longer on American shelves. The manufacturer is also demanding damages.
The focus is in particular on the Zenbook Pro and Zenbook Flip 14. In these devices, Asus will build technology that will speed up wireless connectivity and make the touchpad more convenient. The hinge with which you can turn the laptop into a tablet is also said to be built on Lenovo’s protected technology.
Suit against suit
Lenovo itself states that this case is a response to a previous lawsuit filed by Asus in Germany, on the subject of mobile phone patents that Lenovo allegedly infringes. Lenovo says it wants justice Cross licensing Dealing as a solution and we hope for a fair and transparent licensing agreement in accordance with the FRAND principle (Fair, reasonable and non-discriminatory). Lenovo believes Asus is violating FRAND principles (in other words it doesn’t want to pay what Asus is asking), and will go to war in the US in retaliation.
