“Jamón Ibérico’ is a landmark of Spanish gastronomy. It is known all over the world that many tourists rush to eat a delicious dish of Jamón as soon as they set foot on Spanish soil. In every Spanish supermarket you will find different types of pre-packaged “Jamón Ibérico” and, as with all products, the quality varies. OCU has analyzed the different types of pork available in the market to find out which one is the best. OCU examined a total of 30 packages of different brands found in all of its supermarkets, and the winner came out by a large margin.
The first place went to Jamón Ibérico slices of the Auchan brand, available in Alcampo supermarkets. With a score of 84 out of 100, OCU praised the value for money, the variety of 50% Iberian ham, and the taste of the product. A 100-gram package of Auchan pork costs 4.28 euros and is certified by Certifood, an agency that evaluates quality systems in the agri-food industry.
Not only Auchan ham has been positively evaluated by the consumer and user organization. Iberian ham (paleta) is second to Sánchez Alcaraz, at €11.30 per 100g. Despite the fact that this is pork shoulder and not hamon, it has received a very positive review.
The third place goes to pork from Lidl supermarkets. Realvalle Iberian ham has a price similar to the best rated Spanish ham, at €4.70 per 100g. In fourth place is Jamón Ibérico from ALDI String costs 4.45 euros per 100 grams.
