Mass demonstration in Pyongyang against the US on Korean War Memorial Day

A rally in Pyongyang

NOS news

A massive rally organized by the regime was held in the North Korean capital Pyongyang on Sunday to commemorate the Korean War. According to North Korea’s state news agency KCNA, about 120,000 people were on the move.

Footage released by state media showed North Koreans marching through the stadium carrying banners that read “The entire US territory is within range of our missiles” and “US imperialism is destroying peace”.

The demonstration comes after a phone conversation between US Secretary of State Blinken and his South Korean counterpart, Park. The two discussed, among other things, Blinken’s recent visit to China and his meeting with Chinese President Xi.

According to South Korea’s foreign ministry, the allies agreed to stay in close contact with China. Additionally, both countries believe that Beijing can force Pyongyang to denuclearize.

Increased diplomatic tensions

In recent months, North Korea has continued to test various types of weapons, including intercontinental ballistic missiles. In late May, the country failed to launch a military spy satellite. These developments have led to heightened diplomatic tensions between North Korea, neighboring South Korea and the United States.

The Korean War broke out exactly 73 years ago on Sunday in 1950. During the war, the North was supported by the Soviet Union and South Korea by the United States. Formally, countries are still at war with each other.
