An Electronic Travel Authorization (ESTA) is required to enter the United States. This can be requested online by filling the application form. As a travel agent, you can refer your client to eVisa application services, but answering your client's burning questions is useful.
How long is ESTA valid for?
In principle, ESTA is valid for two years after approval. Exceptions to this are travelers with passports from Brunei and Hungary; They can only use ESTA for one year.
When should I apply for a new ESTA?
– If you are a passenger, a new passport, including the new passport number;
Your name or gender has changed;
-Your country of citizenship has changed;
-If your answer to one or more questions has changed due to a change in your circumstances.
Do you also need an ESTA if you are only transferring to the US?
Yes, you need an ESTA even if you are transferring and not leaving the airport.
When to apply for Visa instead of ESTA?
-If you have stayed in the US for more than 90 days;
If you traveled to Cuba on or after January 12, 2021 (as of this date, Cuba has been designated a state sponsor of terrorism by the United States). Apply for a visa through the US Embassy in The Hague. NB; Have you ever made it as a traveler and US Customs still sees a Cuban stamp in your passport? Then there's a good chance you'll be denied.
How is ESTA verified?
Your ESTA will be verified before you board the flight. This is done using your passport number. The airline checks the ESTA system to see if a valid travel notification is attached to your passport number.
