A teenager shot his classmate in the southern German city of Offenburg. The victim was seriously injured and later died in hospital as a result of the attack. A person who happened to be present was able to overpower the suspect, and he was then handed over to the police.
According to police, the juvenile shooter entered the classroom and specifically targeted his classmate to shoot him. No one else was injured during the incident.
“Personal motivation”
The authorities assume that there is a “personal motive,” but they are conducting further investigations to uncover the background of the incident. At this time, it appears the suspect acted alone. Bild newspaper reported that both the suspect and the victim were 15 years old.
As a precaution, all 180 students at the school were asked to remain in their classrooms until police thoroughly searched the building. Afterwards, the students were welcomed by parents, police officers and psychologists at a nearby gym.
