Hurricane Hillary warns of “life-threatening and catastrophic” flooding in US and Mexico | Weather news

Hillary is moving northwest at 19 kilometers per hour, with maximum sustained winds of 215 kilometers per hour, making it a Category 4 hurricane. It is the second most severe type of tropical storm.

The NHC expects the powerful storm to reach the Mexican resort of Cabo San Lucas on Friday (local time). The storm will hit the US West Coast by the end of the week. The tropical storm was expected to reach California on Sunday night, but its effects will be felt sooner. Hurricane Hillary may weaken, but dangerous rainfall warnings remain.

“Life-threatening and potentially catastrophic flooding is possible in Baja California and Southern California, Mexico this weekend and early next week,” the NHC said. California and southern Nevada are at risk of severe flooding with up to 10 inches of rain. American news channel ‘CNN’ reported that Hillary is expected to bring a year’s worth of rainfall to parts of the US states of Arizona, California and Nevada.

NHC Deputy Director Jamie Rhome warned of flooding risks for the metropolitan areas of San Diego, Los Angeles and Las Vegas, with the Palm Springs area particularly at risk if the storm hits over the weekend. “If you have weekend plans, now is the time to change those plans,” he said.
