Salma Hayek talks again about Harvey Weinstein’s harassment: ‘I didn’t hire you to look ugly’ | Movie

MovieSalma Hayek, 55, has spoken out again about the misconduct of film producer Harvey Weinstein, 69, during the filming of “Frida” in 2002. The actress told the Guardian that he regularly yelled at her and insulted her during filming.

Sometimes he would call me while doing ‘Frida’ and yell, ‘Why do you have a mustache and a moustache? Hayek said: I didn’t hire you to look ugly. Then I thought: Have you never seen a picture of Frida Kahlo before? The Mexican artist was known for her distinctive eyebrows and a mustache that she sometimes painted on herself.

This isn’t the first time the actress has announced Weinstein’s pranks to the public. In 2017, Hayek wrote an op-ed for the New York Times detailing how Weinstein had sexually harassed her for years: “I had to say no when asked if I wanted to shower with him. No to verbally pleasing him. No to nudity with another woman. No no no.” But with each refusal, his anger grew. His persuasion tactics ranged from flattery until that time, when he said in a fit of sheer rage, “I will kill you. I don’t think I can’t do that. “

“I’m fine per se,” Hayek now tells the Guardian, stressing that other women have been through worse situations with him. “But I was shivering and feeling sad afterward.”

Hayek believes that Weinstein never physically attacked her because she was strong: “He never saw me weak. I could almost be intimidating in my composure.” She says she is used to this because girls are often treated poorly, according to the actress. “We must learn to be brave. It is not easy, but it is necessary.”

Weinstein denies all allegations: “All of the sexual allegations that Selma made are not true and others who were there had a different view of what happened,” the former studio head’s spokesperson said in 2017.
