ShowbizThe 14th edition of the Homo Comedy Cup kicks off on Tuesday. The participants’ journey can be followed from November in the four-part series ‘Road to the Final’ on Streamz. In this film, Ruth Beckmans (41) and Jens Dendoncker (33) travel with their reinforced van to all the rounds of the comedy competition and get an exclusive look behind the scenes.
Ruth and Janes listen to the nominees’ stories and taste their sweat before and after each performance. In addition, previous winners also participate in the “Road to the Final”. They will be picked up by cart and will be present during the preliminary rounds of the Humo Comedy Cup. On their way to the competition, they remember the rich history of comedy competition. How important is the Homo Comedy Cup in their careers and what does the competition mean for the comedy scene in Flanders?
On Sunday 26 November, three finalists will compete in the Grand Final of the Homo Comedy Cup, at the Antwerp Arenberg Theatre. The professional jury consists of Guy Mortier, Willem Boeva, Amelie Albrecht, Zander De Ricci, Sue Nsuki and HUMO editor-in-chief Bart Vangeren. They decide who will follow in the footsteps of Wouter Debrez, Günter Lamothe, Lukas Lilly, Jens Dendoncker, Amelie Albrecht, and Vincent Voeten, among others. Who will return to their home country with a prize money of 1,500 euros and the coveted trophy.
The Homo Comedy Cup has been organized by the weekly Homo magazine since 1998. This year, the jury has selected 52 nominees from all entries who will present their best in one of the four regional preliminary rounds in Ghent, Antwerp, Leuven and Stassegem, after which the top 8 will qualify for Semi-finals.
