A new feature makes WhatsApp a little more secure
A few years ago, WhatsApp introduced an interesting feature. When you forward a photo or video, you can choose to show the file only once. Did the recipient open the video or photo? Then the file was automatically discarded when you finished watching it.
WhatsApp is now going a step further and introducing a new feature that makes the app more secure. There is now also the option to send a voice message with a one-time offer.
When you send someone a voice message, they can open the file once (but listen to it multiple times). Then the audio file disappears automatically when you close the audio clip. It is a useful option if you want to convey sensitive information in a voice message.
To send a one-time voice message in WhatsApp, follow these steps.
Create a voice message on WhatsApp with a one-time offer
- In WhatsApp, open the conversation you want to send a voice message to;
- Place your finger on the microphone icon and swipe up;
- Press “1” in the bubble and start speaking to record your message;
- To send the message, tap the send icon at the bottom right.
This feature will be rolled out across WhatsApp in the near future. So the function may not be immediately available on your iPhone.
More new features for WhatsApp
WhatsApp has recently rolled out more new features that make the app more secure. Earlier this year, WhatsApp introduced chat locks to help users protect their sensitive conversations.
But they recently went one step further with the launch of “Secret Code.” This is an extra layer of security that makes your conversations more difficult to find, even if someone has access to your iPhone or you share your phone with others.
You can now also send photos in original quality in the popular app. There is a small limit. You can only send files smaller than 2GB. You won’t be able to get photos that easily, but video files can get very large very quickly.
